D.C.F. formerly known as D.Y.F.S.
The division of children and families formerly known as "D.Y.F.S." is New Jersey's child protection and child welfare agency designated under the Department of Children and Families. The division was created to ensure the safety, permanency and well-being of children and to support their respective families. The agency is responsible for investigating allegations of child abuse and neglect and if necessary, arranging for the child's protection and the family's treatment. This means the division can remove children who are in abusive or unsafe environments and allow the Court to place children in alternative care for temporary or permanent durations. These cases are often complex and can be extremely emotional for the families and children involved. Although the Court and the agency are attempting to address the child's best interests often the parents and family members feel they are being lost in a system and are unable to properly defend against allegations of abuse or neglect. Our office has the experience and knowledge to help families deal with this complicated system and will work hard to assist you with the division and Court room proceedings. If you are experiencing issues concerning the division and the Court regarding your child's placement or custody you should contact our office immediately for proper legal advice. It is important to seek and obtain legal advice at the onset of these proceedings to help avoid consequences that could effect both you and your child.
